Based on my short demo, I’ll say this: The Fuji Altamira CX1.0 is like a rocket ship on rails.

It handled like a dream on the loose rock and gravel “cyclocross demo” course at the ODD event. The bike handles quickly, like a race bike should, responding to the slightest steering input with ease. The lightweight carbon frame and BB30 bottom bracket helped it accelerate like a pure sports car. If you are looking for a “pure” racing cyclocross bike that could do everything from nationals to your local series race then the Fuji Altamira CX1.0 could be for you…but it’s definitely a race bike, not something you’d want to have double up as a commuter or toolin’ around bike.

Unfortunately for your 2010 ‘cross season, you’ll probably need to wait until 2011 because the bike is only available in limited quantities this year in the U.S. with the lion’s share going to sponsored riders. The bike is available in six sizes and includes a Shimano Dura-Ace drivetrain, FSA SLK light cranks and Avid Shorty 6 brakes. The frame is made from high modulus D6 carbon which features a tapered fork (1-1/8″ to 1-1/2″), press fit BB86 bottom bracket and a replaceable derailleur hanger. Oval Concepts supplies the touch points on the bike along with the carbon clincher wheels. Weight 17.27lbs, retail is $5,899.
