If you’re thinking of joining their movement, Madsen’s made some serious upgrades to their cargo bike for 2011. From stronger wheels to an integrated front wheel lock to a more comfortable seat, there isn’t much of the bike they haven’t touched.
Of particular note is that they’ve moved production of the plastic cargo bin from overseas to the U.S., and they’ve made it smoother so it’s easier to wipe down. The new bin isn’t compatible with older models, though, but the new frame-mounted front rack accessory is. They’ve also put a stronger disc brake caliper on the front.
On the front, they’ve redesigned the handlebar and stem, went to a threadless headset and put a beefier tire and a self-sealing Kenda tube on it. Moving backward, new chainguides help reduce chainslap, and each bike comes with two separate 38T and 44T chainrings allowing you to set it up to accommodate your strength and terrain while keeping it simple with just one gear up front.
