Team All Wheels 4 Fibromyalgia swaps riders while passing Monaco's Valerio Zamboni in the fields of Kansas.

The Race Across America (RAAM) started in stages last week, with women on Tuesday, men on Wednesday and teams on Saturday.

While the solo riders plug away on their own, Team Type 1 has been laying down a furious pace, besting their winning record time from 2009. As of this post, they’re cruising through Missouri or just past it, with a reported average speed  around 23.5 mph for the four person team. They crossed Kansas (383 miles) in just 15 hours, 9 minutes.

Current solo mens leader Jure Robic has cranked out 2,278.79 miles as of his last time check and womens solo leader Barbara Buatois has pedaled 2,089.56 miles.

This race, billed as the World’s Toughest Bicycle Race, is so on my bucket list, as a team, of course. Why? Watch Bicycle Dreams and you’ll know why. Plus, every competitor gets a cool custom Polar water bottle, shown after the break…
