Making its debut at the Mellow Johnny’s Classic this past weekend, the new 2011 Orbea Alma 29er got it’s first win under Olympian Georgia Gould. Here’s what Orbea’s NA product manager told us:

Not sure if you noticed but Georgia Gould was the only Luna member that wanted to race the 29er at Mellow Johnny’s due to last minute availability.  The girls only had one day to get the new ride set up but Georgia was determined and felt it would be a huge advantage so after three fittings and three laps on Friday she got dialed in for Saturday’s race.  According to her the 29er allowed her to sit back with the leaders without pushing the pace in the first lap.  After that she went to the front and slowly ran off the front.  By the second lap she was more than two minutes in the lead.  By the end of the third lap and finish of the race she was close to a three minute race win.  She was stoked at how well it handled the technical parts of the course and raved about how fast she pulled the double track.

Close up photo and some tech spec after the break…

  • COCKPIT: FSA Shimano PRO bar, stem and seatpost.

  • TIRES: Maxxis Aspen XCeptional Series 120 TPI

About those tires, they’re light:

Yes, that’s the 29er 120TPI model.  The 26″ 120TPI is under 500g on our scale, and sick fast. Full review on these is coming later this summer…first impressions are favorable.

That bike is also Wobble-Naught fitted. Georgia has been working with WN owner, Tom Coleman, and later Nat Ross for at least 4 years.
