AVID’s new Elixir 3 is built for value at just $109 per wheel but offers up the same Taperbore performance as its big brothers with a sleek ambidextrous lever body and stout two-piece caliper.

Where it shaves the dollars is by using a fixed hydraulic entry to the caliper (versus the adjustable banjo on higher end models) and uses a 3mm allen wrench for reach adjustment (versus a tool-free adjuster knob). But, they have Avid’s Matchmaker mount, so they’ll integrate into your existing SRAM/Avid set up easily, and the levers are ambidextrous, so you can run them moto style if you’re into that.

TaperBore is Avid’s patented hydraulic closure system that “allows for lighter lever travel through the stroke of the lever while moving more fluid than a traditional timing port” and offering good power modulation.  Avid says the Elixir 3 will produce more power than the equivalent Juicy model thanks to the Taperbore system.

The Elixir 3 is aimed at the XC, Trail and All-Mountain crowd, weighs in at 405g (Front; Post mount; 160mm). Full specs and more pics after the break…
