Faction has gathered ‘celebrity’ backing for its 22-inch wheel BMX concept. Legendary vert shredder Matt Hoffman, i.e the Condor, is just one of many lending their voice to the concept, which the manufacturer claims is the perfect solution for those growing out of  traditional 20-inch bikes.

The ‘Condor’ is quoted as saying: “well done on going out there and being progressive”, while reknowned English BMX racer Mike Pardon adds “(the Zeitgeist) gives the perfect blend of 20-inch accelleration and 24″ speed.”

The flagship model – the Zeitgeist – comes with 100% percent cromo frame and forks, double-wall 6160 alloy welded rims and tyres capable of a super tough 100psi.

What’s more, if you’re not in need of a completely new bike, come Spring a frame, fork and wheel package will be available. 22-inch specific kevlar tyres are also due off the production line shortly.

Kev from Faction Bike adds:

Our bike has really split opinions in the BMX world, you either hate it or love it (the one’s who love it are the one’s who’ve actually ridden one). The bike’s been popular with MTB riders who want to get into BMXing but dont like the [quote] ‘squirrely handling’ of 20″ bikes. Tall guys love it because it looks proportionally better (and stunts much better than any cruiser). Our intended market is for people who love big air and pushing the amplitude boundaries of trails and ramp riding – Its just so much easier to go big on a 22. We’re in a Catch22 situation with tyres. Manufacturers are waiting to see if it takes off but riders and retailers are scared of buying in til there’s more tyre choice. Even though the bike’s are kicking ass on trails and racetracks with the standard OEM tyres – people like choice. We’ve got a street tyre in development now. and hopefully with more coverage we’ll be able to afford more tread/sizes in the range.

Mmm someone’s actually done something about the little bikes, only taken what, 20 years to realise that we can actually avoid being shouted at in the street by jocks. I had the idea for 22″ wheels eons ago, have they got a factory making high pressure tires now??
