INTERBIKE 2009Hutchinson released their new Atom Comp and Fusion 3 clincher road tires to the public Thursday of Interbike with a live videocast of a bicycle versus motorcycle race at the Champs Élysées and Arc de Triomphe.

The Atom is Hutchinson’s answer for those cyclists wanting a superlight race tire that actually has some puncture resistance without having to go tubular.  At 195g, it’s “lighter than Michelin’s Pro3 Race and has lower rolling resistance that the Schwalbe Ultremo R” (their claims, not ours).  It’s available as a 700 x 23c in seven colors in a single compound with polyamid anti-puncture reinforcement keeps pokey things at bay.

The Atom’s tread looks like rubber that’s been sandblasted.  The Atom Comp tires are 127 TPI  and have a folding carbon bead.  They’ll retail for about $60 each.

– black/silver (November 09)
– black/blue (November 09)
– black/yellow (November 09)

The Fusion 3 is a triple compound tire for better cornering grip.  The tread compound uses a thermoplastic reinforced compound for long life, a folding carbon bead and 127 TPI casing.  It’s intended as a competition tire and has three versions:

  • Fusion 3 Road Tubeless – 295g – $80
  • Fusion 3 Kevlar ProTech – 205g – $60
  • Fusion 3 Tour de France – 205g – $60 (TdF licensed tire with TdF logo)

These tires should be up on their website in November.
