PRESS RELEASE: Here at the Sea Otter Classic, the popular ZYM portable electrolyte drink ZYMâ„¢ Endurance will debut a more natural formula, eschewing the common chemical sweetener Aspartame and continuing to avoid the controversial preservative sodium benzoate, announced Brian Koff, ZYM founder and BE Innovations president.

Lemon-line ZYM Endurance was introduced two years ago by BE Innovations. A year later, ZYM launched the berry flavored ZYM Catapult, a powerful energy boost infused with 100mg of natural Guaraná caffeine. (Catapult never used Aspartame.) Both ZYM Endurance and ZYM Catapult fight off dehydration, fatigue, muscle pain, and lactic acid build-up.

“Our new formula for Endurance make ZYM the leader in natural sports electrolyte replacement drinks,” explained Koff. “We found a natural way to keep a great taste to ZYM without using Aspartame – and we’ve never used the preservative sodium benzoate, which is common in soft drinks and other sports beverages, but is now being removed due to health concerns. The result is a clean tasting drink that fuels and hydrates elite athletes during competitions. Once ZYM goes to work, athletes can feel a difference of increased performance.”

All ZYM products are free of preservatives, Koff said, including sodium benzoate, which is common in soft drinks and other sports beverages. Known as preservative E211, sodium benzoate has raised eyebrows with medical researchers. Recent studies have shown that sodium benzoate can damage and inactivate vital parts of DNA in a cell’s mitochondria, which play a key role in the body’s energy generation. Many illnesses are now tied to DNA damage, including Parkinson’s and other neuro-degenerative diseases; the body’s aging process is also affected. Moreover, sodium benzoate combined with Vitamin C forms Benzene, a known carcinogen. Several popular soft drink brands recently have removed sodium benzoate.

At Sea Otter – where ZYM will have a booth offering samples to all – several elite athletes will be powered by ZYM, including Pro XTERRA Triathlete star Damian Gonzalez of California and Vanessa Drigo of the Code 3/Hopkins Honda women’s cycling team. Gonzalez, the 2007 XTERRA age group National Champion, turned pro in 2008. He is considered one of the favorites at Sea Otter. Drigo, a Cat 1/2 racer from Switzerland, placed 18th out of 56 in the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Criterium.
