MapMyRide.com recently launched their iPhone App that lets you record your ride with distance and speed.  The best part?  It automatically syncs your ride to MapMyRide.com and saves it to your account.

The next best part?  It’s all FREE. (There is a Premium paid membership available that has lots of added features like printable maps, training plans and data exports, too. $48/year.)

The App is as simple as can be, though it does require the newer 3G iPhone with GPS.  It records total time, distance, current speed, average speed and you can view your maps directly from the phone after the ride.  One of the features they’re working on for a very, very near future update is to allow you to upload maps from your account directly to your phone.

Once you’ve finished your ride, you have the option to save your ride, which will be viewable on your phone and on your computer in your MapMyRide profile.  From there, you can share your map and ride info with friends via Twitter, Facebook and any number of other social media.

A little further down the road, the engineers at MMR are working to allow you to view the uploaded maps in real time GPS movement on your phone as you ride.  Another cool feature I discussed with Doug, their VP of Business Development, is the future ability to search pre-mapped public ride routes from your phone.

Let’s say your traveling with bike and want to find a popular local ride…just search the area you’re in and it’ll pull up maps that you can select from.  Along those lines, one cool thing you can do NOW on their website is map out your shop’s or club’s group rides and make them public and linked to your shop’s icon.  That makes it easy for people to not only find your shop, but to know when and where your group rides are.

I am heading out to Utah for the FrontRunner Century bicycle ride and I am looking to see if anyone has ever used Map My Ride for the FrontRunner Century Bicycle Ride. I have heard that people have used it for LOTOJA and for the Ulcer Ride as well as the Salt Lake City Century. If anyone has info for the FrontRunner Century they could give to me I would be happy. Check out the http://www.frontrunnercentury.com and please let me know.
