Castelli borrowed aluminum space blanket technology for their new Insolito Radiation cycling jacket.  It combines an ultra thin liner made of a reflective material that reflects body heat back at you to keep you warm without any bulk.  In fact, it’s measured in microns it’s so thin.  It’s also perforated to keep perspiration from getting trapped inside, and the outer shell is made of the lightest Windstopper fabric to keep the wind out.  Combined, it claims to offer a very warm, dry solution for cold, windy days.

But wait, there’s more!

The liner is removable, as are the sleeves and hood, making this a true year-round piece of cycling gear.  Which is good, because it costs $500 ($400 for the women’s Alamos Radiation jacket).  There’s also a $400 Quantum Radiation jacket that simply has fewer features but the same reflective lining.

The reflective film is laminated to a woven material and reflects 80% of the body’s heat.  The shell uses Windstopper X-Lite fabric, which they claim is 10x more breathable than competing windproof materials.
