Greensboro NC-area Bike Stuff This Weekend

The weather here is looking good, so if you’re in or near Greensboro, NC, here are some of the rides and bike related things going on this weekend:

Red Oktober Bike Swap and Party – Friday, October 17. Hosted by Cycles de Oro bike shop, Red Oktober is swap meet from 5p to 9p, then a social ’til 11p. Come browse ($5 at the door), or contact Dale Brown for your own table ($15/table). Located in the old Ed McKay’s store behind de Oro on Mill Street in Greensboro.

Cycle for Life 2008 – Saturday, October 18 is the “Cycle for Life…2008” Hanover Park Ride. It supports the North Carolina Stroke Association’s Partnership Grant Program and has become quite a fund-raiser for this organization. There is a 25 mile, a 40 mile, and a 65 mile option, so you can do a long day in the saddle or head in early if you want. Lunch is provided after the ride and the winery will be open as well. Fall Cyclefest – Sunday, October 19. Leaving from Northeast Park off of High Rock Road. Marked Road routes of 60, 40 and 20 miles through scenic low traffic routes in Guilford, Rockingham and Alamance counties. 8:30 am Registration, the 60 milers leave at 9am, the 40 + 20 depart at 10am. Supported Route with SAG and Rest Stops. Food after you are done riding. For Mountain Bikers, the Fat Tire Society will lead various levels of group rides around the sweet single track of Northeast Park. This is your chance to meet other area mountain bikers and also become involved in the club. Only $25 (or $20 for GVC members). All the profits from the event will go to the Local MS Society. Bicycling in Greensboro (BIG) is also having the “Salute to Bike Routes” starting in Lindley Park. Registration at 9:30, ride at 10…15 mile route follows the bike lanes/routes throughout GSO…bring the whole family and see how GSO is making it easy to get around by bike!
