fastboy wood bicycle fender

We did a recent post on Fixie Inc’s sweet new rides, which featured a wood handlebar…which made us wonder, who makes that?  Answer: Fastboy, a NYC based frame and accessory builder artist.

So, how do you get your hands on some of these puppies? Simply, email your measurements to Fastboy and he’ll build a custom bike to go with the fenders and bar. Price? $2,000 and up. Ok, so that’s not exactly how it works, but Ezra (aka: Fastboy) says the demand for full frames is such that there’s not much time to build the fenders, bars, etc., unless you’re willing to plunk down for a frame, too. Bad news? Not so much…the frames are pretty sweet. Pics and deets after the break…

First, the fenders: They can be made with any wood you like, and occasionally (quoting from the website), they’ll crank up the production line to fill orders, so if you want fenders, make sure you’re on their mailing list. If you do manage to score some, they’ll fit just about any 700c bike, and he makes “stubbies” that mount to the brake hole on the seatstay bridge for those of you that eschew brakes.

Here’s a Stubby:

Now, about those frames. They’re brazed steel frames starting at $2k including stainless head badge, basic tubeset (frame and fork) and basic paint, powder or patina. Tubing upgrades are available, as are custom carved lugs ($200), S&S couplers ($400) and the right to micro-manage the project ($500).

There are a ton of photos on Fastboy’s gallery page, but this frame really stood out to me for the curved toptube and couplers that allow you to break it down for travel:

It also shows a great example of the cool head badge:

…and a few other styles:

Cool stuff. Check them out at fastboycycles.com and fastboyfenders.com. Word is, Ezra’s going to get into TIG welding over the winter and has some plans for working with Ti in the future. BTW, the handlebar is $150 (with bike) and the fenders are $150 to $200 depending on style.
