2009 genesis cyclocross croix de fer

No, not that genesis, but Genesis Bikes from across the pond have debuted their ’09 lineup, including their new Croix de Fer (Iron Cross) ‘cross bike, shown above, with Reynolds 520 CroMo. The rest of the range is comprised of some pretty sweet looking hardtails for hard ridin’ XC use.  Pics and deets after the break…

The Aluminum-framed Core line has been improved with better spec than last year with MBUK gave it a 9/10 and “best in test” ratings.  The Core 20 MSRP’s for £670, the Core 30 for £800 and the Core 40 for £1000.

Core 30 (above – SLX, RS Recon 335) and Core 40 (below – XT, RS Recon 351).

The Altitude line of steel framed bikes ranges from the “00” to the “10” to the “20” to the “30”.  The bottom two use Reynolds 520 double-butted Cromoly tubing, and the “20” upgrades to Reynolds 853 piping in a disc-only frame. £650, £850 and £1,000 respectively.  The top-of-the-line steel Altitude is the “30” and comes with the new Rock Shox Maxle Lite 120mm Reba and mostly XT kit.  “00” shown below, “30” under that.

If tin or steel isn’t your thing, the Altitude is also available in Ti (shown below) with a 15mm thru-axle Fox F120R.  The frame is available by itself for £900 or built with full XT kit for £2100.  Frame sizes are 16″, 17.5″, 19″ and 20.5″ and uses oversized top and downtubes for strength and stiffness with tapered and butted chain and seat stays to give it a little compliance and trail “feel”.

If you need something a little beefier with more travel, check out their Alpitude.  Spec’d with a Rock Shox Revelation 140mm travel fork, XT and SLX kit and Conti 2.4″ Mtn King tires, it’ll tackle most trail with aplomb.  It’s a sturdily-built steel frame (5.5lbs for 18″), so it should stand up to some abuse while still giving a fairly lively ride, and the pic (below) reveals some pretty good standover clearance for hucking:

When you’re done owning the trail on these, hop on their Day One (shown below) single speed and roll down to the cafe for a bite.  This comes with a Sugino Track 46T chainset, Formula track hubs and Conti Speedking tires.  And, it’s cheap (if you’re paying pounds) at £470.
